Notes from the MICU, Pneumonia

Thank you all for the out pour of love, prayers and support for Dick!!!! Love to all!! Dick is going through a very difficult time. Bad pneumonia, collasped lungs, he is sedated at this time with a breathing tube but lungs were pretty much cleaned out and will have a new chest x-ray again tommorrow. Pretty much started with a cough on Mon and taken to hosp Wens morn. Thanks again :))October 14 at 8:29pm Today was just a little bit of a set back, chest x-ray was not as clear as they hoped it would be so they were not able to try to let him breath on his own with the CPAP trial. Today they are just trying to loosen stuff in the lungs with respitory therapy and suction He is sedated not so much so we have been able to move him a bit and do range of movement in his arms & legs. Thank you all :))October 15 at 5:28pm Good things are happening, Dick passed his CPAP test and has been breathing on his own. Depending on his next chest x-ray today, they may be able to remove the breathing tube today. If not, could be tommorrow. But things are looking up!!! Once again, Thank You all for the thoughts and prayers, It means alot to us!!! Like · · October 16 at 2:01pm Update, he was able to breath on his own today until 6:00 and then became pretty tired so they had to turn the vent back on,which is very understandable. However the xray did not look as good as expected so they are doing the bronch proceedure tomorrow and go from there....things are still looking up :) Like · · October 16 at 7:26pm "And, see, I am with you always, even to the end of the world. He is in control. ♥ UPDATE: Dick passed the breathing test this morning and the breathing tube was removed @ 11:00 AM. His right lung still has fluid, so now he just have to see if he can endure breathing on his own with oxygen assistance. If all goes well today, they are hoping to get him out of ICU tomorrow. He still has a lot of work to do, but things are looking up! Feeding tube is still in place but he is no longer sedated. He is much happier! Like · · October 18 at 12:21pm Well we are at Drake Center since Thursday night and I'm not sure that this was a good move. Dick is struggling with breathing, blood pressure, total confusion extremely weak. They attemped to get him up for physical therapy this morning but his blood pressure dropped super low, suppose to start him on some fluids through an IV, still waiting....The nurse today said this is not stepdown from ICU this is rehab, so I am a little concerned about the move. Like · · October 22 at 10:34am Yesterday was a much better day for Dick. He was able to get up in the wheelchair for 3 hours, I was even able to take him outside to walk in the sun for a little while. His BP was super low again when they got him up, but it went up to a low medium range that he was able to endure. His care has been much better in the last couple of days....Thank You goes out to some dear friends...we've got your back Dick!!!!! Like · · Wednesday at 6:32a We started with set backs again today. The physical therapist did not want to get him out of bed once again, so out of 9 days here for rehab he has only been out of the bed 3 times. Laying in bed with double pneumonia is not a good idea. I found the doctor and asked her if we could get him up and she said, "why is he not up, he should be up" I said "Thank YOU". So Dick is sitting up and he is a much happier camper!! (still no therapy because he missed his session :( Like · · 15 minutes ago Big strides today, off oxygen and BP was normal enough to get in chair without issues. Gets to sit up for 4 hrs today. Dick also helped the therapist lift himself enough to shift his bottom. Maybe not sound like much but he is now moving steadily in the right drection!! Mon Oct 31st We have been on a roller coaster for weeks at Drake and trying desperately to get off..it has not been easy, but I am working for an early release, hopefully some time in the next few days....in the mean time I just pray for Dick to gain strength!! Have you ever had an internal voice? No not the same as hearing voices. It's like an internal conversation with yourself. I first notice that I had this when I was a young girl watching the Walton's. Remember the one when John Boy said "Mama, sometime I just have to write". It was at this time the I realize I had to do what John Boy did, keep a notebook by the bed. Creating My Backyard Bird Sanctuary

 Sitting on the screened in porch on my deck watching many cardinals.  This started my summer project  of my  backyard bird sanctuary.  Which then took on a like of its own. I proceeded to cut Back many weeds and honeysuckle bushes to clear a huge area, I then sprayed poison ivy and many other ground coverings. I then went to the local garden store purchased a cardinal bird feeder, gathered my St. Francis statue that I had stored at my daughter's home.  I then saw my vision coming to life. My next purchase was a garden bench and a bird bath.  I hung another bird feeder.  I was seeing all minds of animal activities, birds of all kinds but speed of  cardinals.  Of course many squirrels, a fox on a chipmonk which I save from being eaten when I opened the door. If This Isn't a Sign...

When I was in third grade and attending Catholic School, I had a nun for my teacher. She use to always tell great stories about prayer, I loved to hear her stories. They always stuck with me along with her way of praying. She believed in signs and that was how she knew her prayers were answered. She also told us that when ever she heard an ambulance she would say a "Hail Mary"; I have done that since third grade. I have planted alot of things in my yard and gardens and on the back hill I have a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary that leads to my gazabo. Many years ago I planted many daffodils and some tulips. The daffodils came up very plentiful but to my disappointment only one red tulip would come up and bloom, year after year, the one red tulip. I always thought of this tulip as a sign that my brother Mark was okay with the Lord up in Heaven. Mark died back in 1979, in a tradgic car accident.
